“ARMOR OF GOD BOOT CAMP” ACTIVITIES
Adapted for YM & YW
DRILL #1: “LOINS GIRT ABOUT WITH
TRUTH”
Supplies: 1 apron for each team, masking tape to mark lines
of start and finish
PHYSICAL APPLICATION:
Protect of the hips on both sides of backbone from blows – - - punches
will double you over and swords can kill!
SPIRITUAL
APPLICATION:
What is truth?
DC 93:24 – “Truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as
they were, and as they are to come.”
Why would we want to gain knowledge of truth and follow
that truth?
John 14:6 – “Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the
life.”
If we follow the truth we will Jesus Christ.
How do we know if something is true?
Moroni 10:4 – “…ask God, … and he will manifest the truth of
it unto by the power of the Holy Ghost.”
TROOP MISSION TO
EARN ARMOR: “6 PACK ABS RELAY”
SUPPLIES: apron, masking tape
Each troop member will:

Tie on the apron in a bow, run down to marked
line, laydown and do 5 sit ups, run back, untie apron and pass it to the next
person in line.
·
Repeat with each team member.
You ONLY will earn your “armor” IF you complete the drill.
DRILL #2: “BREASTPLATE OF
RIGHTEOUSNESS”
Supplies: masking tape, ping pong balls
PHYSICAL APPLICATION:
The breastplate protects our heart and lungs. Injured heart and/or lungs means your dead! Game over.
SPIRITUAL
APPLICATION:
3 Nephi 12:8 – “And blessed are the pure in heart, for they
shall see God.”
If our heart is polluted with anger, jealousy, hate, or
selfishness we cannot feel the promptings of the Holy Ghost. We need to protect our heart and keep it pure
and unpolluted.
Ezekiel 37:5 – “Thus saith the Lord God … I will cause
breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:”
TROOP MISSION TO
EARN ARMOR: “SUPER POWER LUNGS”
Each troop should kneel around their half of a table so they
are at most shoulder to shoulder – there should be a taped line down the middle.
Place a ping pong ball in the center and everyone
blows. Try to blow the ball off the
other troops side. NO HANDS! Only your hot air!
You ONLY will earn your “armor” IF you complete the drill.
DRILL #3: “FEET SHOD WITH THE
PREPARATION
OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE”
Supplies:
PHYSICAL APPLICATION:
Your feet and legs are your body’s foundation and need to be protected
from blows in battle so that you can continue to fight the enemy.
SPIRITUAL
APPLICATION:
D&C 100:10 – “And I will give unto him power to be
mighty in testimony.”
The foundation of your spirit is your testimony. You must have a strong testimony so that you
can resist the attacks of the enemy! You
must daily strengthen that foundation to remain strong in battle!
TROOP MISSION TO
EARN ARMOR: “LOOSE SHOE RELAY”
Everyone take one shoe off and place it in a pile at the end
of the room. Each troop member, in turn,
must hop down on the foot with a shoe, find their shoe and put it on
COMPLETELY, then run back.
First team complete with shoes wins.
You ONLY will earn your “armor” IF you complete the drill.
DRILL #4: “SHIELD OF FAITH .. TO
QUENCH THE FIREY DARTS”
Supplies: “fiery
darts” (cellophane, popcorn and Velcro), shields of different sizes covered
with felt.
PHYSICAL APPLICATION:
a shield is critical in battle to yield off blows from swords, arrows
and darts! It gives extra protection to
ALL body parts. You need a shield BUT
you also need to know HOW to use it!
SPIRITUAL
APPLICATION:
Moroni 7: 33 – “And
Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye
shall have power to do whatsoever thing is
expedient in me.”
Faith in Jesus Christ is your largest and strongest shield
in the battle of everyday life! How big
is your faith?
TROOP MISSION TO
EARN ARMOR: “FIERY DART FURY”
Two troops on each half of gym.
Each troop member has a few “fiery darts”.
The goal is to hit others, not in the head, with a dart AND
to catch the fiery darts with your shield.

You ONLY will earn your “armor” IF you complete the drill.
DRILL #5: “HELMET OF SALVATION”
Supplies: large
rubber gloves, and a long ribbon for each team
PHYSICAL APPLICATION:
Obviously, a helmet in battle would be important! Protecting your head will keep you
alive! If you are knocked out your are at the mercy of the enemy! Your head and clear mind is necessary to
think clearly and to be able to react quickly.
SPIRITUAL
APPLICATION:
Our spiritual helmet protects our mind and thoughts. A clear and clean mind will affect our
decisions. The enemy seeks to fill our
minds with evil and to “knock us out” so that we are at his mercy! Keep your mind clean and clear so you can
remain in the battle and gain the victory.
TROOP MISSION TO
EARN ARMOR: “TIE IT UP”
Youth sit in chairs in a line. When the signal is given, the first person
stands up and everyone else scoots down a chair.
The first person puts on the gloves and ties the ribbon
around the second person’s head.
When a bow is tied, take off gloves, untie the ribbon and
pass both to the second person.
Second person stands up, everyone scoots down a chair and
repeat until all troop members have completed the drill.
You ONLY will earn your “armor” IF you complete the drill.
DRILL #6: “SWORD OF THE SPIRIT”
Supplies: 2 foam swords, 2 blind folds – per troop,
masking tape
PHYSICAL APPLICATION:
The SWORD can defend or attack!
Without a sword you are only defending and cannot progress forward in
battle to victory!
SPIRITUAL
APPLICATION:
Luke 12:12 – “For the Holy Ghost shall teach you …”
1 Nephi 17:48 – “… touch me not, for I am filled with the
power of God … and whoso shall lay his hands upon me shall wither even as a
dried reed; …”
The sword of the spirit is the Holy Ghost! The Holy Ghost can defend and attack.
The Holy Ghost and can defend us from evil if we will listen
to its promptings.
The Holy Ghost can also help us attack in the battle of life
by helping us progress forward -- if we
will listen and let him guide us in our decisions.
TROOP MISSION TO
EARN ARMOR: “BLIND SWORD FIGHT”
Divide troop in half and each half will battle another half
of a different troop.
Blind fold 1 troop member each troop and give them each a
sword and have them each stand on a tape line so that they are about 3 feet
apart.
On the signal, other troop members give them directions to
battle their opponent and go for the “kill.”
First person to “jab” the other person’s belly button wins.
VARIATIONS:
Battle without any help
Battle with everyone yelling
Battle with one voice, close and whispering in the person’s
ear
HANDOUT DIRECTIONS:
Copy Shield a and b. Cut out the shields and place a on top of b
and tape on the left side. Cut shield a
on the dotted lines up to the tape edge, but not all the way through.
